School Council:

Who are our School Councillors this academic year?

A big congratulations to our newly elected School Councillors! At the start of the term, a job specification for the role of School Councillor was shared with all children. Children who then wanted to apply spoke within their class about why they wanted to commit their time to the School Council and discussed the qualities that felt they had to make a difference. After this, a vote was held in which they were elected.

Well done to all the children who bravely took part. We wish our school councillors well in their endeavours. Here at OLSJ, ‘every voice matters’ and our School Councillors are representatives for their classes. They will begin to discuss ideas and decisions in their classes with their peers and class views will be shared at meetings.

What will School Council be doing this year?

This year, School Council will be exploring some key questions around important school matters.. They will be conducting research, carrying out pupil voice, analysing results and presenting their findings to children and staff. This will include canvassing pupils and families for their views. A very exciting year ahead!

What is a ‘chairperson’?

A chairperson is a pupil that will lead the child led team in discussions. They will aim to ensure every voice is heard and that debates are fair, balanced and positive. They may also take minutes, reflect on discussions and ensure we are purposeful and productive within our time. This year Olivia and Mason will be our chairs of school council. We have no doubt that they will help to lead the team well this year.

Who supports the School Council?

We all do! From sharing ideas to suggesting improvements or solutions everyone in our school contributes to our child led team. Mrs Norris works closely leading and coaching our School Council pupils in their roles. School Council will also regularly meet with Miss Calton to share their findings and discuss actions. We are looking forward to hearing your views!
