Year 4

Year 4 and the rest of the school were quite curious about why Mr. Riste-Smith was dressed in a skirt or kilt today.

We talked about the significance of Robert Burns Day for Scottish people and the origins of Burns Night at our initial assembly. We discovered that he is regarded as a national treasure and is a very important individual. He was a poet who was born on January 25th and composed poetry like "To a Mouse" and "Address to the Haggis." Typically, his birthday is marked by a Burns Supper that consists of eating haggis, neaps, and tatties. Historically, haggis is produced from the stomach of a sheep, which is then filled with oatmeal, onion, heart and lungs. We also learned a few lyrics from the song 500 Miles by The Proclaimers. We included some common Scottish dancing to accompany this.

Tragically, Robert Burns died at the age of 37 from an ongoing condition. He is remembered today as Scotland's poet.
