Year 1 Parent and Child Workshop:

Pip and Pap Parent and Child Workshop

Pupils and Parents in Year 1 enjoyed their Pip and Pap workshop on the Pink Phase Book "Flash and Chell"!

They read the book with their parents, after teaching them the grapheme-phoneme correspondences in the story - /ai/ /ee/ /eer/ /igh/ /oa/ and /oo/.

They read sentences such as "Flash the dog helps Chell out with some tasks. He fetches the mail," and "Chell and Flash approach the traffic lights. They need to cross the main road."

In the book, guide dog Flash helps alien character Chell, who is visually impaired! Pupils and parents discussed why you should not touch a working guide dog, before learning more about Braille. Pupils and parents then worked together to write their names in Braille, using craft materials.

Many thanks to all of our parents who attended - we are running Pip and Pap workshops every other week in Years R-2 to support children with their phonics learning, please ask your child's class teacher for more details. We would love to see you at the next one!
