Councillor Humby and Councillor Chadd Visit.
We were delighted to welcome Cllr Rob Humby and Cllr Roz Chadd from Hampshire County Council to the school today, to hear more about the issues we are facing on Ramley Road. They visited the school after our Junior Road Safety Team wrote to Cllr Humby, expressing their concerns about the speeds on Ramley Road.
Our Y6 children and Junior Road Safety Officers presented a convincing case to the Councillors - explaining why we need a crossing on Ramley Road and the issues regarding the speeds, traffic and parking. We are very proud of our pupils, they shared an excellent presentation, for which both Councillors commended them.
A big thank you to our parents and governors who also came to speak to the both Councillors and shared their concerns. We very much appreciate your support and help.
Both Councillors will now return to HCC to discuss the matter further with their respective teams (schools and transport) with a copy of the children's script from the assembly, they were that impressed!
We very much hope that they will grant our request for a crossing - Councillor Humby will be discussing the issues on Ramley Road with his team and exploring further options. We are very much looking forward to hearing the outcome of this meeting.
The children were so pleased to know that when they use their collective voice,
people really do listen and that we can bring about change - and that they can be the architects of a better world. Well done to them all for their tenacity in pushing this issue, they know that their actions may well benefit pupils at OLSJ in years to come.
